Position Summary
The Shop Production & Quality Assistant supports the daily manufacturing operation while providing an additional layer of in-process quality control throughout the production floor.T his is a hands-on position. The employee will assist wherever needed in the manufacturing process while developing a working knowledge of Timberland Door Company’s products, equipment, production standards, and quality requirements. A primary responsibility of the position is to identify potential quality issues before the product advances to the next stage of production or reaches final inspection. The objective is simple: help keep production moving while preventing defects, rework, remakes, and customer quality issues.
Primary Responsibilities
Production Support
- Assist production personnel throughout the manufacturing process based on daily production requirements.
- Support material movement, staging, assembly, sanding, preparation, packaging, and other production functions as assigned.
- Help maintain proper workflow between production stations.
- Assist with production bottlenecks and priority orders as directed by management.
- Learn Timberland’s manufacturing process from raw material through finished product.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
In-Process Quality Control
- Inspect products throughout the manufacturing process rather than relying solely on final inspection.
- Identify visible defects, process inconsistencies, or workmanship concerns before products move to the next production stage.
- Verify that work is being performed according to established production and quality procedures.
- Immediately communicate quality concerns to production leadership.
- Assist with documenting recurring defects and identifying where within the production process they originated.
- Participate in corrective-action efforts designed to prevent recurring quality issues.
- Help reinforce the principle that quality is built into the product at every production stage.
Key Quality Inspection Areas
The Shop Production & Quality Assistant should develop competency in identifying issues involving:
- MDF/core condition
- Door dimensions and specifications
- CNC routing quality
- Edge preparation
- Glue coverage and consistency
- Bond integrity
- Edge material installation
- Sanding and surface preparation
- Routed-area condition
- Primer and paint application
- Surface finish
- Door separation or splitting
- Handling damage
- Packaging and protection
- Final product appearance
Any questionable product should be stopped and reviewed before proceeding to the next production operation.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
The employee will support Timberland’s Quality Management System by:
- Following established production and quality procedures.
- Helping identify recurring defects and process failures.
- Participating in root-cause discussions when quality issues occur.
- Supporting corrective and preventative actions.
- Reporting equipment or process conditions that may negatively affect product quality.
- Helping management identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and workflow.
The goal is not simply to find defective doors. The goal is to help determine why defects occur and prevent them from happening again.
Production Equipment & Maintenance Awareness
While this is not a maintenance position, the employee should:
- Develop familiarity with production equipment and proper operating conditions.
- Immediately report abnormal equipment operation, damage, leaks, worn components, or other concerns.
- Assist operators and maintenance personnel when appropriate.
- Understand that equipment condition and preventative maintenance directly affect product quality.

Qualifications
- Manufacturing, woodworking, cabinet, millwork, construction, or similar production experience preferred.
- Quality-control experience is beneficial but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to recognize inconsistencies and workmanship issues.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to communicate concerns professionally and promptly.
- Willingness to learn multiple production functions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
Physical Requirements
The position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, material handling, and movement throughout a manufacturing environment. Employee must be capable of safely performing the physical requirements associated with door manufacturing and material handling, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
Role Philosophy
At Timberland Door Company, quality is not the responsibility of one person at the end of the production line. Every employee who touches the product owns quality. The Shop Production & Quality Assistant provides additional support to that philosophy by working directly within production, identifying problems early, and helping ensure that products advancing through the manufacturing process meet Timberland’s standards. The position is intended to support three operating priorities: Safety → Quality → Production
The successful employee will understand that increasing production only creates value when we manufacture a consistent product that meets customer expectations the first time.
Pay: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour
