Responsibilities
1. Layout and Fit-Up Inspection
- Verify Dimensional Accuracy: Inspect structural members (beams, columns, trusses) and miscellaneous metals (stairs, rails, ladders, embeds) against shop drawings.
- Check Fit and Alignment: Ensure components are fitted, clamped, and tacked correctly prior to final welding, verifying squareness, camber, elevation, and hole locations.
- Use Precision Tools: Accurately utilize measuring tapes, framing squares, calipers.
2. Welding and Code Compliance
- Visual Weld Inspection (VT): Inspect welds for size, profile, length, and continuity in accordance with AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code – Steel) or AWS D1.2 / D1.3 standards.
- Check for Defects: Identify and document surface defects such as undercut, porosity, overlap, or incomplete fusion.
- WPS Verification: Ensure welders are following approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and are qualified for the processes they are using.
3. Job Tracking
- Shop work orders: Tracking SWO’s throughout the entire process. Entering/updating into EPM (tracking software).
4. Documentation and Reporting
- Inspection Reports: Maintain clear, accurate QC logs, inspection checklists, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for out-of-spec items.
- Final Signoffs: Apply shop stamps or sign off on traveler/routing sheets once assemblies are cleared for shipping, painting, or galvanizing.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge in structural, misc. & stair steel fabrication
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong Verbal and Basic Computer Communication skill
- Strong organizational skills

Pay: $30.00 – $37.00 per hour
