About The Role

As a Software QA Engineer Intern at AIO, you will be responsible for validating the software and applications running across our restaurant technology ecosystem. Your primary focus will be app-level testing ensuring that the software on our Android-based embedded devices is functional, stable, and delivers a reliable experience in live restaurant environments. You will work closely with the software and firmware teams to design and execute test cases, report defects, and help drive quality at every release. A basic understanding of the hardware these applications run on is helpful, but software quality is the core of this role. You will report to the Senior Hardware Test Engineer and collaborate with software, firmware, and product teams.

What will be your responsibilities?

App-Level QA & Testing

  • Design and execute structured test cases for Android-based applications running on AIO devices covering functional, regression, UI/UX, and edge case scenarios.
  • Verify end-to-end workflows across the restaurant technology stack: ordering, payment, kitchen display, and receipt flows.
  • Perform exploratory testing to surface unexpected behaviors and edge cases beyond scripted test plans.
  • Validate app behavior across different device configurations, OS versions, and network conditions.
  • Assess UI consistency, responsiveness, and usability across AIO's device portfolio.

Defect Management & Reporting

  • Identify, document, and track software bugs using the issue tracking system with clear reproduction steps, severity classification, and supporting evidence.
  • Work with the software team to confirm reported issues are understood and reproduced, and re-test after fixes are deployed.
  • Maintain test case documentation and QA checklists, keeping them current with each software release.
  • Contribute to release sign-off by providing clear pass/fail summaries backed by test results.

Process & Compliance

  • Assist in building and maintaining test matrices covering app versions, device variants, and configuration states.
  • Participate in QA reviews and contribute to improving test coverage over time.
  • Support the team in identifying gaps in existing test coverage and proposing additional test scenarios.

What are we looking for and what does it require to be the right fit for this role?

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Computer Engineering is required.

Technical Skills

  • Foundational understanding of Software Quality Assurance test case design, bug lifecycle, regression testing, and QA processes.
  • Familiarity with Android-based devices and mobile application workflows.
  • Ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports with steps, expected vs. actual behavior, and severity classification.
  • Basic knowledge of Python or any scripting language for simple test support tasks is a plus.
  • Familiarity with issue tracking tools (e.g. Jira) is a plus.
  • Basic awareness of how software runs on embedded hardware understanding the device context without needing deep hardware expertise.
  • Exposure to API testing or basic network/connectivity concepts is a plus.

Soft Skills

  • Detail-oriented and methodical you follow test procedures carefully and document findings accurately.
  • Curious mindset you go beyond the happy path and actively look for things that can break.
  • Strong written communication able to write bug reports and test summaries that both engineers and non-technical stakeholders can act on.
  • Collaborative comfortable working alongside software, firmware, and product teams.
  • Self-motivated and eager to grow in software quality and testing practices.
