Quality Assurance Accessibility Specialist-System Office Shared Services (Hybrid)

Job Summary

Create and maintain standards to enhance the understanding of, and compliance with, accessibility policies and procedures for System Offices. Recent college graduate with course work on accessibility are welcome to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Serve as consultant, as a shared service, on accessibility for System Offices: -Assist in performing accessibility testing on non-enterprise software by analyzing and identifying accessibility concerns. Create and maintain resources for System Offices to learn about creating more accessible experiences. Review System Offices work deliverables and provide solutions for a more accessible experience for end users. Work deliverables include but are not limited to communications, websites, presentations, e-learning courses, documentation, and videos. Utilize manual testing and tools to enhance accessibility experience in change management deliverables, including but not limited to communications, training, etc. Provide input to the design of communication, reports, graphical communications, training courses, presentations, and educational materials. Independently research and develop expertise on emerging accessibility policies, topics, technologies, and features. Participate and provide input on system projects as a Subject Matter Expert on accessibility standards.

2. Produce accessible content. -Create accessible templates for communications, reports, graphical materials, training materials, including but not limited to websites, presentations, e-learning courses, documentation, and videos. Create accessible metadata, review aria labels and provide input on web accessibility enhancements. Review, edit, and revise existing materials to bring them into compliance with accessibility standards.

3. Communicate frequently and effectively with various project collaborators to ensure that goals and objectives are being met.

4. Other duties and responsibilities appropriate for an Accessibility Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories: a. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months), Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months), 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months), Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) b. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. Demonstrated experience in accessibility testing, communications, web development, instructional design, user experience, or working with users to implement accommodations.

3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

4. Demonstrated experience in accessibility testing, communications, web development, instructional design, user experience, or working with users to implement accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelors Degree in Business, Communications, English, Marketing, Journalism, Web Development, Instructional Design, Human Resource Development, Human Computer Interaction or a related field.
2. Experience, expertise and skills in software testing processes and techniques.
3. Experience working in or a good understanding of an Agile development process.
4. Higher education experience.
5. Experience in mentoring, coaching, and training customers on solutions of accessibility issues, policies, procedures, and adherence to standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Skilled in Microsoft suite of applications.

2. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

3. Ability to understand, summarize, and present information in both written and oral formats.

4. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

5. Excellent time management and organizational skills.

6. Self-motivation and initiative for independent follow-through on work activities.

7. A desire to learn new skills, technical concepts, and be part of a team environment.

8. Knowledge of Software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.

9. Knowledge of computer industry quality assurance best practices.

10. Strong project analysis and research skills.

11. Knowledge of creating and implementing solutions to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

12. Knowledge of Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) standards and usage.

13. Certifications from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).

14. Knowledge of or experience with tools such as ReQtest Requirements and Testing application, or software utilized to conduct accessibility tests for Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA) compliance (i.e., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ANDI, etc.).

15. Working knowledge of HTML as it applies to accessibility and best practices.

16. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on emerging accessibility policies, topics, technologies, and features.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 – Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/7/2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $58,000 to $62,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
