TITLE: Quality Technician

LEVEL/DIVISION: Quality

REPORTING TO: Quality Engineer / Quality Manager

SUMMARY:

Responsible for coordination of plant Quality Planning, Control, and Improvement Activities. Has lead responsibility to ensure compliance to plant-level Quality and Environmental Management System procedures with emphasis in MIG Welding processes.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports directly to the Quality Engineer / Quality Manager.
Works with the Production Supervisor in order to assure Quality and reliability goals.
Provides direction, coordination and follow-up activities for adherence to daily process controls.
Prioritizes and implements opportunities for continuous improvements for customer and in-plant quality metrics.
Coordinates Quality System and Manufacturing activities related to Company policies and procedures.
Coordinates input from internal and external customers to meet and exceed expectations.

Critical function responsibilities:

Creates/revises Quality Documents (e.g., Operation Inspection Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, Quality alerts as well as various forms) under the guidance of the Systems Manager and Quality Engineer.
Conducts Pre-Shift Meetings along with Quality Engineer and Production Supervisor
Trains Quality and Production employees on Quality-related procedures, quality alerts etc…
Trains Quality and Production employees all required part inspection requirements and methods.
Trains Quality and Production employees to required gage use and maintenance.
Works with Quality Engineer and Quality Manager to continually improve the quality inspection process.
Conducts and participates in manufacturing process audits.
Manages Final Inspection Audit inspections, aids in back up the departments as needed.
Responsible for the daily collection and reporting of scrap in QAD.
Responsible for the execution of NSI red tag non-conforming material, this also included product MRB as well as disposition.
Responsible for fast action to quality events as well as added support.
Ensure RED-ERROR PROOF creation and maintenance.
Ensure RED-ERROR PROOF sample processing.
Product Audit to current Bluebook (OII, Gage, & Pack Instruction) requirements (random, per established schedule or focused area based on implemented corrective actions).
Participates in root cause investigations and corrective action identification/implementation
Audits processes and procedures pertaining to production and the Quality and Environmental Management System
Enters scrap/rework data into the Plant 2 Production Database
Performs other quality related duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

Required:

Minimum five (5) years of experience working at a Tier 1 supplier or equivalent and three (3) or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity
Demonstrated knowledge of TS16949 Quality Management System
Demonstrated ability to lead a team in the planning, follow up and successful execution of deliverables
Demonstrated use of inspection devices, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, torque wrenches
High level of problem solving capabilities including complex issues. Extensive experience in auditing processes and procedures
Well developed oral and written communication skills to included a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others at all levels of the organization
Extensive knowledge of product and manufacturing processes, preferably in the automotive industry.
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and product specifications
Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, some knowledge of quality software

Preferred:

Internal and external supplier quality experience
Corrective Action knowledge (8D, DDW, PDCA, etc.)
Experience with PFMEAs and PCPs
PPAP planning and execution experience
Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP requirements
Blueprint reading/GD&T
Use of Inspection Devices, including Micrometers, Calipers, Gauges, Torque Wrenches
Welding ( MIG, Resistance, Projection) experience and knowledge
Valid drivers’ license is required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages and directs shift inspectors. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their shift. May also directly supervises production and maintenance personnel as a backup. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
