Job Description:
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineering Assistant supports Quality Engineers (QEs) with evaluating customer drawings, models and specifications to determine the most efficient inspection process and work on targeted nonconformance reduction by utilizing lean concepts and continuous improvement methods. Also, supports QEs with specifying and developing quality inspection programs, processes and methodology. Work hands-on, interacting with shop floor personnel, engineering, and manufacturing groups to ensure lean plans are created and implemented. Responsible for supporting Meyer Tool’s Quality Management System objectives of Quality, Cost and Delivery by processing non-conforming hardware, gathering and submitting customer required data and reviewing documentation. This position works closely with all job functions in the organization as well as external customers.
Primary Responsibilities:
Process non-conforming hardware, preparing deviation reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends; entering data and generating reports and presentations.
Work closely with Quality Engineer on projects and quality implementations as well as root cause analysis on non-conformances to identify root cause and prevent reoccurrence.
Gather and submit customer required data prior to shipment, such as ITPs, FAIRs, and C of Cs.
Keeps track of deviation precedence and coordinate memos to streamline review procedures and customer disposition.
Supports Quality Engineering in development, changes, review and approval of internal work instructions including Orion inspection programs.
Submit metrology samples as necessary.
Review and approve vendor certifications according to AS9100 standards and in compliance with MT QMS requirements.
Participate in Continuous Improvement projects.
Assist the Quality Manager, as needed, with various audits and compliance projects.
Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
Must be able to work required hours to ensure delivery of customer product (May require staying past normal scheduled hours and weekends).
Requirements:
3 years’ experience in manufacturing / quality related environment required.
Ability to process and communicate information using Microsoft Office software.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Sound and analytical problem-solving skills.
Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
20/25 vision (natural or corrected).
Must be able to use standard gauges: micrometers, height gauges, calipers etc.
Must meet ITAR definition of US Person(s).
Must have HS diploma or equivalent.
MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment drug testing will be required.
Preferable Experience:
Green Belt in Six Sigma or similar training.
Understanding of quality systems such as AS9100, ISO and NADCAP.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and/or models.
Knowledge of root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma and/or equivalent quality training.
Associates Degree in relevant field.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and move throughout the facility. Will use hands, frequently stretch, climb, push, pull, crouch, and stoop. Will reach with hands and arms, and communicate. The employee must frequently lift/or move up to 35 pounds. Work in manufacturing environment and use of computer (typical 2-button scroll mouse and keyboard – 50% of work day). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may be loud. Must be able to use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
