JOB TITLE: Medical Laboratory Technician DEPARTMENT: Humble Clinic REPORTS TO:

Job Summary:

At Wellspire Medical Group, the Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in delivering high-quality diagnostic testing services. This role is responsible for performing both routine and advanced laboratory analyses with precision and accuracy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound clinical judgment, a strong understanding of laboratory principles and equipment, and a commitment to efficiency, patient safety, and team collaboration. This position is essential to maintaining the integrity and quality of our laboratory operations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

People & Collaboration ● Foster a positive and team-oriented work environment that promotes communication, mutual respect, and collaboration. ● Effectively share relevant patient and testing information with clinical and support teams. ● Assist with the onboarding and training of new employees, students, or interns as assigned. ● Support lab and clinic-wide improvement initiatives and projects.

Service Excellence ● Perform qualitative and quantitative testing using both automated analyzers and manual techniques. ● Manage workload independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and support team members as needed. ● Consistently meet expected turnaround times while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

Quality & Safety ● Adhere to Wellspire’s lab testing competencies and standards in all assigned areas. ● Identify, investigate, and resolve testing discrepancies; escalate complex issues appropriately. ● Conduct instrument calibration, quality control checks, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting as required. ● Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards at all times.

Resource Management ● Practice good stewardship of lab supplies and equipment. ● Accurately track time worked and adjust schedules to meet departmental needs. ● Maintain adequate stock levels and assist with inventory replenishment.

Professional Development ● Remain current with lab techniques, technologies, and protocols by engaging in ongoing learning opportunities. ● Review standard operating procedures regularly and suggest updates or improvements.

Required Skills/Abilities:

● Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking) to ensure effective communication and safety. ● Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with patients, providers, and peers. ● Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently. ● Sound clinical judgment with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently. ● Familiarity with lab information systems (LIS), EMRs, and basic office software. ● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.

Education and Experience:

● Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program or equivalent education approved by a recognized credentialing organization. ● Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred (hospital or outpatient environment).

Certifications (must obtain within 1 year of hire if not already certified):

● Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA – ASCP) ● Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT – ASCP or AMT)

Physical Requirements:

● Prolonged periods of standing and working at a laboratory bench or computer. ● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds. ● Manual dexterity and visual acuity to handle lab instruments and samples.
