Position Summary
The Supplier Quality Engineer will support and investigate supplied parts related quality problems and manufacturing difficulties. They will also provide statistical information as well as accurate reporting to promote quality improvement activities.
Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
Contain and control issues relating to supplied parts quality on the manufacturing floor
Visit direct material suppliers to assist in problem-solving activities with a focus on understanding true root cause, reoccurrence prevention, and clear/direct reporting on the findings and improvement activities
Perform compliance and system effectiveness audits (with other departments) at suppliers to insure adherence to company policies, procedures and customer requirements.
Organize and present data to management for decision making.
Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations.
Work in a team environment centered on structured problem-solving processes.
Identify and resolve problems, make process improvements, and respond to internal and external customer inquiries regarding supplied parts quality issues in such a manner to prevent recurrence.
Participate in technical discussions with suppliers, internal and external customers.
Contribute to the Supplier Quality team by accomplishing related results as needed.
Educate associates and supplier members in both theory and application of quality tools such as statistics, inspection methods, problem solving, process analysis, and improvement.
Audit production processes at early trial stages and monitor parts quality from initial trial through project mass production.
Implement kaizens to improve quality metrics and to promote the continuous improvements of the manufacturing process
Utilize quality tools to implement Corrective Actions to avoid the reoccurrence of quality issues
Work with Engineering and Manufacturing in implementing customer requirements, quality standards, process requirements and measurable.
Required Skills and Abilities
Essential Skills and Experience:
3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance or engineering role, experience with a focus on supplied parts quality and a minimum of 2 years in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment is preferred
Demonstrated ability to create and teach manufacturing processes, theories, and procedures
Knowledge and experience with parts measurement required
Process experience with IATF and ISO auditing preferred
Understand PFMEA, Statistical probability, and root cause analysis with a comfort level in reporting to senior leaders
Demonstrated problem solving to resolution experience in an engineering role
Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures
Possess very strong communication skills with the ability to successfully connect with non-technical individuals
Excellent computer skills working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; database management skills ideal
Education/Training/Certifications
Successful completion of a Bachelors of Science in Engineering or related field
Requirements:
Travel Requirements
Approximately 20 %
Must be willing and available to travel to such locations and with such frequency as is necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
