The Utility Equipment Inspector is responsible for inspecting, testing, and evaluating aerial lift, digger derrick, crane and other trucks, chassis and related equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable, properly maintained, and compliant with applicable regulatory, customer and company requirements. Utility Sales & Service is a rapidly growing manufacturer and service provider of custom-made aerial lift trucks located in Appleton, WI.
This Utility Equipment Inspector identifies defects and potential safety hazards, documents inspection findings, and communicates required repairs or corrective actions. Light repairs may be performed at the time of inspection.

Scope:
The Utility Equipment Inspector provides quality OSHA/ANSI/ASME/DOT inspections of all manufacturers’ models of aerial lifts, digger derricks, truck-mounted cranes, service bodies and other mobile equipment. The Utility Equipment Inspector will typically perform inspections at customers’ locations, performing their duties safely and in cooperation with other customer employees. Upon completion of the inspection, the Utility Equipment Inspector will promptly forward legibly completed inspection reports to their home office for processing. The individual will work under minimal daily supervision.
Job Duties for Utility Equipment Inspector:
- The Utility Equipment Inspector will be traveling daily to see customers in the state in WI (occasional overnight travel)
- Perform detailed, scripted inspections of aerial lifts, digger derricks, truck-mounted cranes, service bodies and other mobile equipment, including chassis, boom, bucket/platform, outriggers, hydraulic systems, controls, electrical systems, safety devices, and related components. The inspections are in accordance with applicable OSHA/ANSI/ASME/DOT & OEM regulations and guidelines.
- Test equipment functions and verify that safety systems operate properly.
- Identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, structural, and operational defects.
- Perform dielectric testing of booms, liners, controls and other tools/equipment per OSHA/ANSI & OEM regulations and guidelines.
- Document inspection results, deficiencies and recommended corrective actions accurately and promptly forward documents to the home office.
- Clearly communicate safety concerns and repair recommendations to customer mechanics, supervisors, fleet personnel, and equipment operators as required.
- Properly tag and recommend that equipment be placed out of service when serious safety defects are identified, following company procedures.
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment problems to determine whether additional testing or repairs are necessary.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow all customer and company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform light repairs as needed, including (but not limited to) hydraulic filter replacement, hardware replacement, electrical component replacement, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience inspecting, maintaining, repairing, or operating aerial lift equipment, utility trucks, cranes, or heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural components.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, inspection criteria, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment and workplace safety.
- Ability to identify and accurately document equipment deficiencies.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound safety-related decisions.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Relevant inspection, equipment, or safety certifications are a plus.
- The ability to work 50ft in the air on aerial equipment.
- A Physical, background check and drug test are required before starting
