Overview
The Vice President (VP) of Food Safety has overall responsibility for designing, implementing and monitoring food safety programs across my clients operations. This includes setting standards and requirements, performing internal reviews, and identifying improvement opportunities on an on‑going basis. The position is also responsible for managing all third party quality audits – existing customers, prospects and Safe Quality Food (SQF). The VP of Food Safety is a senior member of my clients leadership team and is supported by two food safety team members.
The position reports to the SVP of Operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the management of Food Safety Programs, including HACCP, SQF, GFSI, GMP
- Manage employee food safety training programs.
- Develop/Manage policies and Standard Operating Procedures and work with management to operationalize them within the Company.
- Conduct internal reviews to ensure compliance with the Company’s food safety requirements.
- Participate in the screening and approval of new suppliers
- Participate in the review of non-conformances, customer complaints and other after-action reviews.
- Manage various food safety related vendors and service providers
- Collaborate with Regulatory on regulatory/food safety matters.
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities on an on‑going basis
- Develop metrics and reports that measure food safety performance
- Manage Food Safety employee performance including the delivery of defined goals and objectives.
Education and/or Work Experience and Other Requirements
- 10 years leadership experience food safety in flavors manufacturing, food, pharma or cosmetic industry.
- Deep understanding and track record of success managing food safety programs – e.g., SQF, HAACP, GFSI
- Strong problem‑solving skills: ability to analyze issues and create solutions.
- Ability to operationalize changes across the business system.
- Results oriented; focused on meeting goals and objectives.
- Ability to develop and manage staff to higher levels of performance.
- Collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills – written and oral.
