Commodity Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Works with global supplier quality and purchasing organizations to support the sourcing process.
Assists in the implementation and monitoring of advanced quality planning with selected future product suppliers, as required.
Performs as needed Potential Supplier Assessments and participates in Technical Review Meetings.
Performs as needed on-site Process Control Plan Audits to verify supplier manufacturing quality systems and control plan execution.
Provides, as needed, support for formal 8D containment, root cause, and corrective action documentation. Coordinates supplier scheduling of formal 8D report outs either at Allison or via teleconference. (Note: 8D is a standard automotive industry problem solving methodology)
Works with the global supplier quality organization to drive corrective action to closure for supplied part issues.
Validates supplier design of product and processes utilizing the automotive standard, AIAG PPAP process (Automotive Industry Action Group Production Part Approval Process).
Key Performance Measures
Successful program launch [Quality, timing, and cost] with the proper use of APQP fundamentals and tools.
8D problem solving closure rate.
Execution of a targeted number of supplier Process Control Plan audits.
Accuracy of capital expense forecasting [aka Cost to Complete] supported by proper PPAP planning.
Supplier composite scorecard monitoring and continuous improvement for suppliers with a RED rating in the Quality or PPAP segments.
Qualifications
Oral and written communication skills – ability to communicate orally and in written format in cross-functional environments; including leadership.
ERP System knowledge relating to purchasing, supplier, and materials management – including the ability to develop and implement system level procedures that document best practices and workflows that are consistently applied by all staff in all locations.
Basic skills in project and process management.
Ability to work collaboratively with people and possess the skills in problem solving, situation assessment and conflict resolution.
Ability to oversee a limited number of simultaneous projects.
Knowledge of transmission assembly processes.
Fluent in written and conversational English language.
Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering/Manufacturing or comparable technical program.
Experience
0-3 years of Supplier Quality or related manufacturing Quality experience
Basic working knowledge of AIAG standards – APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and MSA.
Basic working knowledge of automotive industry 8D problem solving tool.
Basic knowledge in various advanced problem solving skills – Six Sigma, Red X, Kepner Tregoe, or equivalent processes
Working knowledge in Quality Systems fundamentals with a focus on IATF16949/ISO9001 requirements.
Knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T)
Working knowledge in a limited number [1-3] manufacturing processes.
Scope
Manages assignments and workload with a reasonable level of autonomy; daily tasks are typically self-directed and associated priorities are generally self-determined.
Performs a variety of complex tasks, with a reasonable scope of work and span of control expected of an entry-level position.
