The purpose of this position is to assist in physical and chemical testing on products produced by Proliant Dairy Ingredient and prepare samples for testing by outside labs. To assist in providing accurate and timely administrative support, general office functions and other related duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma/GED required. Post high school education in chemistry, food sciences or related field preferred.
Experience: Chemistry lab experience or equivalent experience preferred. Familiar with dairy processing preferred.
JOB DUTIES:
Lab Duties – Lab Assistant – 80%
Conduct quality control procedures in the laboratory.
Responsible for sample login to LIMS program and identification of sampling plan to be used based on SKU and production run.
Responsible for data entry of Laboratory analysis results in LIMS
Assist the QC Supervisor and other staff-members as needed.
Follow laboratory procedures accurately to assure compliance to good laboratory practices.
Demonstrate organizational skills and the ability to prioritize to accommodate workload, data entry and special projects.
Assist in troubleshooting and repairing laboratory equipment.
Responsible for following all company procedures and regulations.
Maintain a clean laboratory environment.
Clean glassware and equipment when needed.
Follow instructions as directed by plant leadership.
Conduct routine testing of raw materials, finished products, and in-process samples, including but not limited to testing Samples for protein, moisture, ash, pH, color and other tests, as required.
Calibrate lab equipment.
Assist in maintaining retain inventory in the warehouse.
Prepare customer samples.
Collect in-process and Environmental samples according to sampling plans and SOP procedures.
Obtain QC production documents from Control room.
Check metal detector counts and log information in Food Safety binder.
Assist in maintaining inventory of lab supplies and chemicals.
Accurately creates FedEx shipping labels daily for samples needing to go out on time.
Settles solid percentages with outside Whey Permeate Suppliers and enters into AS400 (LIMS) both supplier and agreed upon numbers.
Back up for Completing VGM forms for Containers shipped.
Verify production records by reviewing the Inventory records in Infor and confirming that production was placed into the system correctly and under the correct production date and in the correct quantity. In conjunction with Logistics/Warehouse Supervisor.
Front Office – 10%
Operate all necessary office equipment required to accomplish job duties; i.e., phone, calculator, fax machine, computer, and printer.
Enter newly received raw material loads into AS400/Infor.
Warehouse – 10%
Back up for recording outbound B/L’s and send original to corporate office.
Back up for preparing shipping documents as back-up to Warehouse and AA or based on scheduled work hours.
Reconcile inventory of raw materials, aside from permeate, on a pre-determined schedule as well as at month end.
Back up for distributing product photos and documentation to customers per special requirements.
Back up for assembling Booking details into files in order to organize documentation for VGMs generated by AA.
Orders plant supplies required for production, safety, and sanitation.
Back up for Allocating product in Infor to all orders needing to go out; making sure product is clear and meets the customers specifications.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to operate all necessary plant and office equipment required to accomplish job duties, such as computers, office telephones including voice mail features, fax machines, etc.
Ability to work daily, weekends and extended hours as necessary.
Ability to be cross-trained in all aspects of the job.
Accuracy in filling out paperwork and entering data.
Ability to remain on task without being distracted.
Ability to assist other work-related areas, as required.
Ability to learn and operate Windows software, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and internal company systems.
Must be able to distinguish if food safety violations or product quality issues occur and resolve immediately or, if unable to resolve immediately, contact Plant Manager and/or the QC Management

General office working conditions exist within a food manufacturing process environment. Minimal contact with plant maintenance areas. May include exposure to temperature changes from below freezing to extreme heat, chemicals, high noise levels, moving machinery/equipment, moving throughout the building to different processing areas and wet floors.
