We are looking for a full-time Automotive Buffing, Detailing & Quality Control Technician to assist with final finish work, vehicle detailing, paint correction, and pre-delivery inspections.

This role is extremely important to our final product. The last person to touch a vehicle has a major impact on what the customer sees when they pick it up. We need someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, organized, and willing to take ownership of the final presentation of every vehicle.

Position Overview

The Buffing, Detailing & Quality Control Technician is responsible for helping vehicles reach final delivery condition after body and paint work is complete.

This position includes buffing, polishing, cleaning, inspecting, and identifying concerns before a vehicle is delivered. Small details matter, including clean jambs, compound-free cracks and edges, clean glass and wheels, properly installed trim, and an overall professional presentation.

This is not simply a wash-and-vacuum position. Final quality control is a major part of the role.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Wet sand and buff painted panels as needed
  • Polish vehicles to remove minor imperfections, dirt nibs, haze, swirl marks, and light sanding marks
  • Perform paint correction and final finish work
  • Clean wheels, tires, glass, door jambs, fuel doors, edges, and body gaps
  • Remove dust, compound, overspray residue, tape lines, and shop debris
  • Inspect paint finish, body lines, panel gaps, trim fitment, and overall appearance
  • Assist with final quality-control inspections before customer delivery
  • Check for missed clips, loose trim, lights, emblems, moldings, and obvious fitment concerns
  • Communicate quality or repair concerns to management before delivery
  • Clean vehicle interiors and remove dust or debris left during the repair process
  • Move vehicles safely around the shop and parking lot
  • Assist with photo documentation when needed
  • Maintain buffing pads, compounds, towels, and detailing supplies
  • Keep the detailing and buffing area clean and organized
  • Support the body and paint teams when needed

Quality Control Duties

The quality-control portion of the job includes inspecting vehicles for:

  • Paint imperfections
  • Sanding or buffing marks
  • Compound residue
  • Overspray
  • Dirty jambs, edges, or body gaps
  • Loose trim or clips
  • Poor panel alignment
  • Missing parts or hardware
  • Dirty glass or mirrors
  • Interior dust or shop debris
  • Warning lights or other obvious vehicle concerns
  • Final presentation issues that need to be corrected before delivery

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Previous hands-on experience with automotive detailing, buffing, polishing, or similar vehicle finish work
  • Ability to operate professional buffing and polishing equipment safely
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify finish or presentation concerns
  • Ability to work carefully around fresh paint and completed vehicles
  • Ability to communicate quality concerns clearly to management and other team members
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to move customer vehicles safely
  • Dependable attendance, organization, and availability to work the full-time schedule
  • A team-oriented attitude and willingness to assist other departments when needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Collision repair shop or automotive paint shop experience
  • Experience with paint correction
  • Ability to wet sand and buff fresh automotive paint safely
  • Experience inspecting paint finish, body lines, panel gaps, trim, and final vehicle presentation

Pay & Schedule

  • Full-time, hourly position
  • Hourly pay based on experience and demonstrated skill level
  • Overtime opportunities may be available based on workload

Schedule:

Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
