Position: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

The position reports to the Quality Control Supervisor and involves inspecting raw materials, in-process work, and finished products for conformance to shop drawings, specifications, and codes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read and understand shop fabrication drawings for steel bridge fabrication.
Read and understand specifications and codes related to highway bridges, railroad bridges, and state DOTs.
Inspect raw materials and verify dimensions against shop drawings.
Interpret engineering drawings and collaborate with management or engineering staff to ensure quality standards.
Perform visual and NDE inspections for welds, bolts, coatings, etc.
Maintain quality control inspection records and assist in audits.
Complete required certifications and reports.
Operate diagnostic equipment as needed and ensure calibration of inspection tools.
Develop and review weld procedures, repair procedures, and standard procedures.
Enforce non-conformance procedures and resolve quality issues.
Act as liaison to outside inspectors and review testing documentation.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum of three years of related experience in steel fabrication or equivalent education and experience.
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and AWS codes D1.1 and D1.3.
Effective communication with shop personnel and management.
