Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced QA Technician to join our team. This position reports to the Quality Manager in the QA department.
Responsibilities:
Analyze Tootsie Rolls, Fruit Chews, Frooties, Tootsie Pops, Fruit Chew Pops, and Dots against specifications
Analyze all incoming Raw Ingredients against specifications (as needed)
Report all products/ingredients out of specification to productions staff or Director of R&D, QA, and Pkg.
Analyze daily cleaning solutions from productions kitchens
Set up and conduct shelf life studies on products (as needed)
Set up and conduct sensory studies on products (as needed)
Create new products based on current industry trends and/or requests from Marketing
Verify that product weights are being met
Verify that metal detectors are operating properly
Evaluate wrapping and other packaging to ensure the integrity of the seals and material
Check Vision systems to verify operating performance
Collect data to verify that product meets visual, physical and analytical expectations
Identify any housekeeping infractions and inform production staff when one is found
Collect and organize all quality data and generate graphs and charts for inclusion in monthly QA reports
Walk through specific parts or plant for bimonthly UV Monitor check
Record, check, update Glass/Hard Plastic Master and Repair Lists
Call/Email outside vendors for flavor sample requests
Place/Organize product sample boxes in lab storage room
Requirements:
Biological Science degree (biology, chemistry, food science) or equivalent work experience
Product moisture, sugar (DE), and acid specifications
Raw Ingredient specifications
Proper use/knowledge of all lab equipment
Proper labeling of all solutions/samples
Aseptic sampling techniques
Procedures for lab analysis on all raw ingredient and finished products
Product weight targets
Procedure for verifying performance of metal detectors using wands
Expectations regarding packaging integrity
Procedure for verifying vision system performance
Expectations regarding packaging integrity.
Procedure for verifying vision system performance.
Understanding of product’s physical attributes (e.g. color, shape).
Understanding of Tootsie Roll’s GMP and SOP programs.
Ability to use Microsoft Office software to generate graphs and charts, and other documents.
Ability to use standard office equipment (fax machine, printer, scanner, etc).
Interpersonal and leadership skills.
Project management skills.
