Piping & Pipeline QC Inspector – British Columbia & Alberta (CSA Z662 / ASME B31.3)

Taguchi Inspection is seeking experienced Piping and Pipeline QC Inspectors for projects across British Columbia and Alberta. With major pipeline expansions, LNG facilities, and refinery upgrades underway across Western Canada, demand for qualified piping inspection professionals is at an all-time high.

Position Overview

As a Piping & Pipeline QC Inspector, you will perform quality control inspections on process piping, plant piping, and pipeline construction to ensure compliance with CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, API 1104, and other applicable codes and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect piping fabrication and field installation activities including cutting, fit-up, welding, and heat treatment
  • Review pipe material certifications (MTRs), heat numbers, and traceability documentation
  • Conduct dimensional checks on pipe spools, flanges, fittings, and supports
  • Witness and document pressure tests (hydrotests, pneumatic tests) and leak tests
  • Inspect pipe coating, wrapping, and cathodic protection systems for pipeline work
  • Review and verify inspection test plans (ITPs), weld maps, and heat treatment records
  • Coordinate NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT) on piping welds
  • Identify non-conformances and issue NCRs; track through to corrective action closure
  • Prepare inspection reports, daily QC logs, and turnover documentation
  • Ensure compliance with ABSA, TSSA, NEB/CER, and applicable provincial regulations

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 3–7 years of piping or pipeline QC inspection experience
  • Strong working knowledge of CSA Z662 (pipeline) and/or ASME B31.3 (process piping)
  • Knowledge of API 1104 (pipeline welding) and API 570 (piping inspection) is an asset
  • CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector certification or equivalent is preferred
  • NACE Coating Inspector certification (CIP Level 1 or
    2) is an asset for pipeline roles
  • Familiarity with NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT) and the ability to review NDT reports
  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics, P&IDs, and line lists
  • Excellent documentation and report writing skills
  • Valid driver’s licence; ability to work at pipeline and plant sites in BC and Alberta
  • CSTS or similar safety training certification required
  • Pipeline (CSA Z662 / API 1104):
    Oil & gas transmission pipelines, gathering lines, gathering systems, compressor stations, pump stations
  • Plant / Process Piping (ASME B31.3):
    Refineries, petrochemical plants, LNG facilities, gas plants, industrial process units
