Patient Access Services, Representative – Quality Assurance
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Patient Access Services in a hospital setting encompasses many different roles and responsibilities. It is one of the most important and concentrated areas in healthcare. We are responsible for the delivery of the critical components of the revenue cycle, as well as keeping the hospital compliant with the many regulatory agencies, maintaining patient safety through correct patient identification practices and providing extraordinary customer service skills in situations that are often difficult.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patient Access Services Quality Assurance Representative assists the Quality Assurance Manager with the oversight of all quality initiatives in the Patient Access Services department. Supports the Quality Assurance manager through a variety of tasks related to department improvement. Effectively communicate via phone and email ensuring that all duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support to the Quality Assurance Manager with general clerical and support functions.
Verifies insurance eligibility and financially clear all insured patient accounts across all areas of Patient Access Services.
Reviews all patient accounts for registration errors.
Fixes, document, and maintains database of registration and insurance errors.
Performs root-cause analysis on consistent errors.
Generates ideas for training and re-education opportunities.
Assists Quality Assurance Manager and Training & Communication Supervisor on building education to reduce errors.
Prepares feedback reports for staff Supervisors based on registration and insurance errors discovered through audits.
Stays abreast of changing third party payer criteria.
Reviews and evaluates all patient accounts, reaches out to patients for insurance and/or payment information.
Perform clerical duties for the Quality Assurance department which include typing, filing, copying, scanning, and other duties assigned.
Provide support to the Quality Assurance Manager with general clerical support functions.
Participates in performance improvement activities, ensures compliance of all work-related activities, and assists with reporting of statistics.
Documents and tracks internal audits and other QA activities.
Reviews, evaluates and provides feedback on registration quality reports on a regular basis.
Promotes a positive and professional work environment, and patient safety, and adheres to hospital policies.
Performs other department-specific duties as deemed appropriate by Management.
Abides by documentation guidelines consistently.
Adheres to all company and department policies and procedures in confidentiality, regulatory or contractual mandates and HR policy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required;
High School Diploma/GED.
Two (2) years experience in Revenue Cycle, Medical Office, Business office.
One (1) direct Patient Access experience.
One (1) direct Data Entry experience.
Quantitative/Analytical skills and computer savvy including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Basic office skills and computer keyboarding skills required.
Willingness to work at hospital offsite facilities.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
Preferred;
Associate’s Degree.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services*
Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
