About the role

We have three vacancies for the position of Quality Assistant at the Bulyanhulu site. The Quality Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of Orica’s explosives and blasting operations at the underground Bulyanhulu site.

This position ensures that all explosives products and charging practices meet internal quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. The operator supports technical and operational teams in maintaining best-in-class service delivery and operational excellence.

What you will be doing

As the Quality Assistant, you will be responsible for:

Conducting quality control inspections of bulk explosives (ANFO, Emulsion) and raw materials as per Orica and site-specific standards

Verifying product conformance through laboratory testing and field evaluations

Ensuring blast designs are implemented accurately and reporting deviations or safety issues

Documenting and tracking QA/QC data using Orica systems (BlastIQ, SAP, and other platforms)

Assisting in blast performance monitoring, including post-blast analysis and continuous improvement initiatives

Liaising with operations and technical services teams to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions

Supporting loading and charging crews with quality checks during underground charging activities

Ensuring compliance with Orica’s safety, environmental, and quality assurance protocols

Maintaining traceability of explosive products and ensuring proper storage and handling procedures

Participating in daily pre-starts, safety meetings, and toolbox talks to promote a safety-first culture

What you will bring

Diploma or Degree in Mining, Engineering, or a related technical field

Previous QA/QC experience in the mining or explosives industry preferred

Strong understanding of explosive products, underground blasting operations, and quality management systems

Demonstrated ability to work safely in underground environments

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; SAP or BlastIQ experience is an advantage

Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures

Strong ethics and commitment to safety

Requires shift work and daily underground travel
