Position Title: Quality Assurance and Compliance Associate I
FLSA: Full-time, Non-Exempt (hourly) plus benefits
Salary: $31.51 per hour
Schedule: Sunday – Thursday; 8am to 5pm

San Diego Blood Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization also operating as Southern California Blood Bank. We serve hospitals in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We are the primary blood provider to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and the safety net for hospitals in our region. Every year, more than 150,000 units of blood provided by San Diego Blood Bank are transfused into patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout Southern California. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Summary)
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Audit and Data Entry and, in close collaboration with the Manager, Quality & Regulatory Affairs, the Quality Assurance and Compliance Associate I performs donor record audit review, data entry tasks, donor/patient problem solving and review of deviation reports. Assists with Post Donation Information reports including consignee notification and internal audits.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE (Key Responsibilities):
Performs donor record audit reviews, notifying Management of any discrepancies or corrections.
Investigates and resolves errors or discrepancies on the donor record that prevent the entry of donor record information into the blood bank computer system.
Performs data entry of donor information as needed.
Performs operations/tasks per GMP regulations including following detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), deviation reporting and good documentation practices.
Investigates and resolves donor or product related problems reported by other departments.
Reviews the duplicate donor batch report from Data Entry and identifies, investigates, resolves and maintains the computer and record keeping documentation.
Determines if any currently posted donor deferrals on donors affect the eligibility of their previously drawn blood units and initiates forms necessary for possible look-back.
Initiates deviation report after identifying errors and quarantines products as needed.
Performs review of deviation reports.
Provides product disposition.
Assists with Post Donation Reports including consignee notifications.
Assists in the donor notification process.
Assists with internal annual and focused audits for all areas of the San Diego Blood Bank.
Assists with computer validation, as needed.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Assists in other areas of Quality Assurance and Compliance within the scope of his/her expertise.
Understands and adheres to the policies and standards as developed as part of the San Diego Blood Bank Compliance Program.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Minimum of two years of applicable work experience
May be subject to prolonged sitting and reaching horizontally.
Must have ability to move around office and stand for prolonged periods.
Must be able to work on computer 4 – 8 hours a day.
Must have ability to travel to mobile or fixed collection sites and to off-site meetings.
Ability to perform accurate detail-oriented work.
Ability to organize activities effectively, use effective problem-solving techniques and make sound decisions.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Good organizational and time management skills; must be able to establish priorities and multi-task.
Ability to work well with others.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
