The Director of Quality is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and execution of all quality-related initiatives across the organization. This includes ensuring the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems, driving continuous improvements, and ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards. The Director of Quality will lead teams across multiple departments to ensure the highest level of product and process quality and will have significant input in strategic decisions related to quality systems, products, and continuous improvement efforts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and manage all aspects of the Quality function, including quality assurance, quality control, and laboratory operations across the organization.
Establish and implement strategic plans to achieve short- and long-term quality objectives in alignment with company goals.
Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of quality management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
Ensure the timely and effective disposition of returns, defective products, and materials.
Direct the auditing process of manufacturing and laboratory operations to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards.
Collaborate with senior management, R&D, production, and other departments to ensure quality metrics are met across all stages of production.
Lead efforts for continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives, driving process improvements across the entire operation.
Lead and manage the development and training of quality staff, ensuring they are properly equipped to perform their roles.
Work with plant management to resolve any systemic issues identified during audits or quality investigations.
Prepare and present reports to senior leadership on quality performance, key performance indicators (KPIs), and continuous improvement projects.
Direct the creation of policies and procedures related to quality control and assurance, ensuring that all staff members adhere to best practices.
Ensure alignment of quality standards and practices across multiple regions, ensuring consistency in quality execution and performance.
Provide leadership and support for product development, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance are maintained from the development phase through commercialization.
Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies to manage certifications, inspections, and audits, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Set annual performance goals for the quality team and conduct performance reviews to ensure team success and career development.
Monitor the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions and adjust processes as needed to drive improvement.
Foster a culture of quality across the organization, ensuring that all employees understand the importance of quality and compliance.
Manage the quality budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to meet business objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned by the senior leadership team.
QUALIFICATIONS
7-10 years of experience in quality management or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or director-level role.
Strong experience in managing and improving quality systems, including ISO, OSHA, and EPA regulatory knowledge.
Proven track record of implementing and leading continuous improvement initiatives and driving quality excellence across an organization.
Experience with advanced data analysis, SPC, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action processes.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and inspire a high-performing quality team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated success in implementing and managing quality systems across multiple locations.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and quality management software tools (e.g., Dynamics [D365]).
Knowledge of the chemical manufacturing process, including product testing and analysis.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, responding to immediate quality concerns while maintaining strategic focus.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and deliver results on time and within budget.
A professional and positive attitude with the ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and occasionally perform physical tasks required for quality inspections or audits.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Certifications such as Six Sigma Black Belt, ASQ Certified Quality Manager (CQM), or similar.
Experience with warehouse management and ERP systems.
