QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN
JOB SUMMARY
The QA Technician is responsible for maintaining the safety and quality of all raw and finished products used in and produced by the company. This role requires meticulous documentation, attention to detail, and commitment to quality to protect consumer health and uphold both regulatory standards and the company’s reputation for excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct pre-operational inspection of equipment and ensure safety aspects of all equipment are 100% functional, operational, and compliant with manufacturer’s design.
- Perform daily calibration of thermometers and scales as well as conduct weight checks of product to ensure products comply with the net weight program.
- Inspect incoming goods, work in progress (WIP) items, and finished goods to ensure quality standards comply with ingredient specifications, meet food safety standards, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor key process control points during production operations to verify compliance with company standards & policies.
- Effectively communicate and interact with all plant personnel to enforce compliance programs including the HACCP Program, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), foreign material control, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Provide ongoing feedback related to quality, shelf-life studies, customer complaints/rejections, or new items in development.
- Report any food safety or quality issues so that corrective actions can be taken.
- Enforce, comply, document adherence, or report violations related to GMPs.
- Perform required product sensory evaluations, physical checks, and conduct appropriate testing to ensure products conform to all in-process & finished product specifications.
- Maintain temperature logs and identify any anomalies to ensure food security and safety
- Carefully and consistently document all sample results and observations.
- Participate and help develop basic preventive and corrective action plans for improving the quality of products manufactured in our plant.
- Adhere to Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and training
- Actively involved in preparation for Safe Quality Food audits and 3rd-party audits.
WORK REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT
- Must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, detail-oriented, dependable, hardworking, and a goal-driven individual committed to ensuring that established quality control standards are achieved and maintained consistently.
- Must have exceptional leadership skills and strong organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, with the ability to speak to groups and potentially conduct group training as needed.
- Can creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations, processes, or general problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently or with a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Capability of performing basic math & literacy; applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, weights, measurements, and proportions to practical situations.
- Bilingual skills are a plus (English must be one of the two languages).
- Maintain good attendance and be punctual as required day in and day out.
- Available to work Monday – Friday and on Saturdays if needed or until production work has been completed.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
- Setting is in a Food Manufacturing Plant (refrigerated cold storage) where hands-on labor is required.
- The temperature may vary by activity; the temperature range is 38 degrees in the production plant.
- Work conditions vary; the noise level is high and constant; floors are damp and slick.
- Must be able to lift to 30 pounds.
- Requires frequent standing, lifting, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, smelling, listening, speaking, seeing, and having flexibility to perform the essential job duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- Must have at least two years’ experience in a food manufacturing setting with an emphasis on Quality Control Systems
- Knowledge of common food pathogens, FDA, GMP, HACCP standards.
- Knowledge of SQF is helpful.
