Job Summary:
The QA Tester will be responsible for planning, developing, maintaining and executing effective test cases for system enhancements, software application development, and weekly in-house changes to various applications. Also, the QA Tester works within various Project Teams, analyzes, defines and documents Business Process and information requirements.
With a strong understanding of testing procedures and quality assurance programs, the QA Tester will be responsible for testing applications prior to release into production. Any defects that are identified will be recorded in our ALM system. The position will work with analysts to resolve defects and retest.
The QA Tester will play a valuable role in providing ongoing feedback to the development and technical teams of these applications for enhancements and play a critical role in the implementation of these fixes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides testing services that encompass software scenario’s, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug tests (and retests) or usability.
- Develops and executes test plans, test strategies, test schedules and test cases, scenarios and scripts.
- Defines and analyzes business requirements of assigned business units. Confers with user departments to determine business specifications for current and future business and information requirements.
- Analyses program design documents to verify requirements are met.
- Responds to questions relating to the use of application programs. Identifies and resolves data processing issues.
- Records test scripts and recommends scripts for automation.
- Provides valuable input for services in the areas of continuous improvement of the programs.
- Provides feedback to the development teams on ongoing issues by observing and reporting potential problems and issues related to the systems or a problem in the business process while using the systems.
- Feeds information to the Business Analysts for changes required to user manuals for necessary updates.
- Documents software defects using HP ALM.
- Monitors bug resolutions and tracks successes and status.
- Develops and coordinates test plans. Provides updates to project team.
- Documents and reports test procedures and results.
- Identifies, analyzes and documents problems with program function, process, output, online screen or content.
- Updates automated/manual test scripts and test plans to ensure accuracy with changing requirements.
- Participates and/or facilitates project meetings, communicates and tracks the outcome with the participants.
- Adapts to the constant changes occurring in the computer systems and business environment and related support.
- Maintains functional security of all regions (test, quality assurance and training).
- Responds to questions from Help Desk or users arising from use of system programs. Analyzes business problems to help determine best resolution.
Qualifications:
Diploma or higher in computer science or related discipline from an accredited posted-secondary education institution.
Minimum 3 years of experience working full-time as a Software Tester in an information technology environment within the past 5 years. Experience includes the following:
- Must have hands-on experience in all stages of system, integration, user acceptance testing effort for a minimum of three large and complex development projects.
- Deep understanding of industry testing methodologies. Proven ability in the development and execution of test plans, test designs, test reports and testing techniques.
- Must have experience in web and mobile testing.
- Proficiency in development of SQL queries.
- Very familiar with testing tools (HP ALM, Jira).
- Working knowledge of system architecture, system designs, system integrations and programming.
- Strict attention to detail, highly organized, efficient and excellent at problem solving.
- Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to all audiences.
- Must possess a high degree of integrity.
- Test Automation experience is an asset.
