Job Title: QC Inspector

Department: Fabrication
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 + hours/week)
Schedule: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM, Weekdays
Location: On-Site
Reports To: Justin Rogers

Position Overview

The QC Inspector is responsible for verifying that fabricated steel components and assemblies meet customer specifications, drawing requirements, and company quality standards. This role performs inspections throughout the fabrication process, documents results, identifies nonconforming work, and supports corrective action to prevent rework and ensure final product quality. The QC Inspector works closely with fabrication, welding, and project teams to maintain compliance and inspection readiness.

Core Responsibilities

In-Process & Final Inspection

· Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated components to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and company procedures

· Verify dimensions, fit-up, weld preparation, hole patterns, and overall workmanship as required

· Confirm correct material identification and traceability as applicable (heat numbers, tags, MTRs)

· Verify surface condition, coating requirements, and handling protection as required

Documentation & Reporting

· Complete inspection records accurately and legibly (checklists, reports, inspection logs, etc.)

· Review and verify traveler packets, routing, and job documentation for completeness

· Maintain organized quality records that are retrievable for audit and customer requirements

· Report inspection results and issues to QC Manager/QA Manager and appropriate production personnel

Nonconformance & Corrective Action Support

· Identify nonconforming product or process issues and document findings

· Communicate quality concerns promptly to production leadership to prevent continued defects

· Support NCR documentation and follow-up actions as assigned

· Verify corrections and re-inspect repaired or reworked items prior to release

Coordination & Communication

· Coordinate with Shop Foreman, welders, fabricators, and project teams to ensure inspection points are met without delaying production

· Assist in preparation for internal and external audits as needed

· Support continuous improvement by identifying repeated issues and recommending solutions

Safety & Environmental Compliance

· Follow all company safety procedures and policies

· Properly wear PPE as required for the role

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

· Report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions to supervision

Qualifications

Education & Experience

· High school diploma or GED required; technical training in welding/fabrication or quality preferred

· 2+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication and/or inspection preferred

· Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications required

· Knowledge of inspection tools and measurement methods required

· CWI certification preferred (or willingness to obtain as required by company needs)

Required Skills & Physical Requirements

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards

· Working knowledge of measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, micrometers, levels, squares, etc.)

· Ability to interpret prints, weld symbols, and fabrication requirements

· Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with production teams

· Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and work in a shop environment

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance as needed

Pay: $25.00 – $33.00 per hour
