Quality Inspector I
Position Summary
The Quality Inspector I performs inspections of parts to verify compliance with applicable drawings, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. This position uses a variety of measuring and inspection equipment, documents inspection results, and identifies nonconforming material throughout the production process.
Working with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and other functional teams, the Quality Inspector I helps ensure products meet established quality, reliability, and workmanship standards. The position works under general supervision and is expected to recognize quality issues, accurately document findings, and support the resolution of nonconformances.
Job Core Responsibilities
- Conducts inspections and quality control examinations on parts, components, and finished products at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with established quality, reliability, and customer standards.
- Performs incoming, in-process, and/or final inspections as assigned.
- Uses appropriate measuring and inspection equipment, such as calipers, gauges, functional gauges, and other measurement tools, to verify product conformance.
- Reviews engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, and other technical documentation to determine applicable inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Accurately records and maintains inspection and test results in accordance with established procedures.
- Identifies and documents nonconforming material.
- Communicates inspection results and quality concerns to appropriate Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and supervisory personnel.
- Supports investigation and resolution of quality issues, including verification of corrective actions when assigned.
- Maintains inspection areas, records, and equipment in an organized and professional manner.
- Follows applicable quality management system procedures, safety requirements, work instructions, and company policies.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality, inspection processes, and operational efficiency.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required.
- The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move parts or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Team lifting or appropriate material-handling equipment should be used when necessary.
- Specific vision requirements may include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish details necessary to perform inspection activities.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required by the work area.
Job Specifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that enables successful performance of the position.
Certifications / Training:
Vocational training, technical coursework, apprenticeship experience, or equivalent training in quality inspection, manufacturing, machining, or a related field is preferred.
Years of Experience:
0–2 years of relevant quality inspection, manufacturing, machining, or related experience.
Required / Preferred Skills
- Ability to use precision measuring and test equipment as required by the assigned inspection activity.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, charts, diagrams, sketches, and work instructions.
- Basic understanding of dimensional inspection principles, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
- Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and communicate quality concerns clearly and professionally.
- Basic problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to follow written procedures and established inspection methods.
- Ability to work independently within established guidelines and collaborate effectively with production, quality, and engineering personnel.
- Proficient computer skills, including the ability to enter, retrieve, and maintain inspection and quality-related data.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and/or electronic quality management or manufacturing systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, medical device, automotive, or other regulated production environment is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 – $30.00 per hour
