Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead and manage the quality function for a small aerospace manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the company’s Quality Management System while ensuring compliance with AS9100, customer requirements, FAA requirements, applicable industry standards, and contractual/regulatory requirements.
The QA Manager will provide hands-on leadership in a manufacturing environment and will directly supervise three Quality Inspectors. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a small-company environment where they may need to move between management, customer quality requirements, inspection, documentation, problem solving, and the production floor.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the company’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities.
Supervise, train, develop, and manage three Quality Inspectors, including scheduling, performance management, training, and workload distribution.
Maintain and continuously improve the company’s AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS).
Ensure compliance with applicable customer, FAA, and aerospace quality requirements.
Serve as the primary quality contact for customers and customer quality representatives.
Review customer purchase orders, drawings, specifications, quality clauses, and other contractual requirements.
Ensure manufacturing and inspection processes comply with applicable engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and customer requirements.
Oversee receiving, in-process, and final inspection activities.
Ensure proper calibration and control of inspection, measurement, and test equipment.
Manage nonconforming material/product, including identification, segregation, disposition, corrective action, and documentation.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities.
Manage customer complaints, escapes, returns, and quality issues through timely containment and resolution.
Support FAI/FAIR (First Article Inspection) requirements and maintain AS9102 documentation as applicable.
Support customer and regulatory audits and lead internal audits.
Develop and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, forms, and records.
Monitor quality metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Work closely with Manufacturing and Engineering to resolve production and quality issues.
Review and approve inspection documentation and quality records.
Ensure traceability of materials, components, processes, and finished products.
Maintain control of supplier quality requirements and assist with supplier evaluations, corrective actions, and performance monitoring.
Support special process controls and supplier certifications as required by customer and aerospace specifications.
Ensure proper handling of customer-owned property, tooling, materials, and documentation.
Support work transfers, process changes, deviations, concessions, and customer approvals when applicable.
Monitor and maintain compliance with customer-specific requirements and approved supplier requirements.
Ensure proper retention and control of quality records.
Promote a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and defect prevention throughout the organization.
Provide management with regular reporting on quality performance, risks, corrective actions, and improvement initiatives.
Aerospace Quality Responsibilities
The QA Manager will be expected to have a strong understanding of aerospace quality requirements, including:

AS9102 First Article Inspection
Customer-specific quality requirements
FAA requirements applicable to the company’s products and operations
Nonconformance processes
Corrective and preventive action
Root cause analysis
Configuration and document control
Product and material traceability
Calibration and measurement systems
Supplier quality management
Internal and external audits
Special process controls
Customer approvals and concessions
Work transfer / work movement requirements
Aerospace record retention requirements
Leadership Responsibilities
This is a hands-on management position. The QA Manager will be responsible for:
Direct supervision of 3 Quality Inspectors
Establishing daily inspection priorities
Assigning inspection workload
Ensuring adequate quality coverage for production
Training inspectors on drawings, specifications, inspection methods, and customer requirements
Reviewing inspector performance and competency
Ensuring inspectors are properly trained and qualified
Resolving conflicts between production requirements and quality requirements
Establishing consistent inspection practices
Supporting cross-training and development of the Quality team
Qualifications
5+ years of quality experience in aerospace manufacturing, with increasing responsibility.
Previous experience managing or supervising quality personnel.
Strong working knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace quality systems.
Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection.
Experience with nonconformance, corrective action, root cause analysis, and MRB processes.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.
Experience working directly with aerospace customers and customer quality representatives.
Strong understanding of inspection methods.
Experience with calibration and measurement equipment.
Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a small manufacturing environment and balance management responsibilities with hands-on quality support.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with FAA-regulated aerospace manufacturing.
Experience with customer-specific QMS requirements.
Experience with statistical process control and continuous improvement methodologies.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a working Quality Manager, not someone who only manages from an office. The successful candidate will be comfortable spending time on the manufacturing floor, working directly with inspectors and production personnel, reviewing documentation, solving problems, and communicating with customers.
The ideal candidate takes ownership of the quality system, understands the importance of aerospace traceability and documentation, and can lead a small quality team while maintaining a strong working relationship with Operations and Manufacturing.
Pay: $85,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
