Quality Inspector Jobs in Johnstown, CO at ORIGIN MEC

Quality Inspector – Metal Fabrication

Origin Engineering LLC – Johnstown, CO

Origin Engineering is looking for a hands-on Quality Inspector to work directly on our manufacturing floor inspecting parts throughout the production process.

This is not a desk-based quality position. You will spend the majority of your day on the shop floor working directly with production, inspecting parts, reading drawings, taking measurements, identifying problems, and verifying corrections.

Our manufacturing operations include laser and waterjet cutting, press brake forming, CNC/machining operations, welding and fabrication, hardware installation, powder coating, and final assembly.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Perform receiving, first-piece, in-process, and final inspections
  • Inspect laser/waterjet-cut parts, formed sheet metal, machined features, welded assemblies, hardware, finished parts, and completed assemblies
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, notes, and specifications
  • Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, tape measures, squares, angle measurement tools, and other inspection equipment
  • Verify hole sizes and locations, formed dimensions, angles, overall dimensions, assembly dimensions, and other drawing requirements
  • Inspect welded assemblies for dimensions, component location/orientation, weld location and appearance, missing welds, distortion, fit-up, and completeness
  • Identify nonconforming parts while they are being manufactured—not just at final inspection
  • Clearly communicate quality problems to welders, operators, production leads, and the Quality Manager
  • Document inspection results and actual measurements
  • Support Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and verify corrections before parts are released
  • Inspect incoming material, hardware, components, certifications, and MTRs when required
  • Perform final inspections before products are released for shipment

What We’re Looking For

We need someone who is comfortable walking onto the floor with a drawing and determining whether the part was built correctly.

Required:

  • Manufacturing, metal fabrication, machining, welding, or quality inspection experience
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Experience using calipers and dimensional inspection equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working directly with production personnel
  • Ability to document measurements and inspection results accurately
  • Willingness to stop and identify work that does not meet requirements
  • Willingness to work directly with operators to correct nonconforming parts and help identify the root cause of quality issues.
  • Basic computer skills, (i.e., using Microsoft applications)

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of manufacturing or quality inspection experience
  • Sheet metal fabrication experience
  • Experience inspecting welded assemblies
  • Experience using 3D CAD software to pull basic dimensions for production and inspection.
  • Experience with first-article and in-process inspections
  • Basic GD&T knowledge
  • Experience with NCRs and nonconforming material
  • ISO 9001 manufacturing experience

Who Will Do Well in This Role

The right person is someone who doesn’t just check boxes.

You should be the type of person who looks at the drawing, understands how the part was made, knows how to measure it, notices when something doesn’t look right, and is willing to speak up.

Quality Inspectors at Origin work closely with production. The goal is to catch problems as early as possible, get them corrected, and prevent nonconforming product from reaching the customer.

Work Environment

This is an active manufacturing-floor position. You will regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, bend or kneel to inspect assemblies, use handheld measurement equipment, work around fabrication equipment, and wear required PPE in production areas.

If you enjoy being on the shop floor, working with drawings and manufactured parts, and figuring out whether something was built correctly, we want to hear from you.
