SUMMARY
The Receiving & Inspection Technician supports the Company’s operations by accurately unloading, inspecting, and receiving incoming materials in accordance with customer requirements and company procedures. This position ensures product quality, proper documentation, correct inventory placement, and effective stock rotation while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient warehouse environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Unload incoming shipments safely and efficiently from trucks or containers.- Use mobile scanning devices to receive parts into the inventory system.
- Read and interpret engineering prints to identify critical, major, and minor characteristics.
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections to verify product quality against engineering print and specifications.
- Utilize appropriate inspection tools, techniques, and equipment to perform product audits, determine sample sizes, and identify errors or omissions.
- Identify, document, and report nonconforming materials in accordance with company procedures.
- Print labels and tag parts accurately upon receipt.
- Put away parts and scan them into proper storage locations.
- Rotate stock using first in, first out (FIFO), or customer-specific requirements to maintain accurate inventory flow and prevent aging materials.
- Weigh or hand-count parts and verify quantities against packing slips.
- Package parts according to customer requirements, including weighing or counting items into bags.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area, including staging zones and inspection workspaces.
- Conduct basic equipment inspections and ensure equipment is in proper working condition; report issues promptly.
- Operate forklifts and other company vehicles in accordance with training and certification requirements.
- Communicate quality concerns, discrepancies, or process issues to the Receiving Supervisor or management.
- Complete all required logs, forms, and documentation accurately and on time.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to meet productivity, quality, and safety standards.
- Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and general warehouse tasks as assigned.
- Cross-train in other receiving functions and assist other departments as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong counting accuracy and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn basic quality concepts and terminology.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments.
- Strong prioritization and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and work instructions.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to learn measurement conversions and work with degrees, minutes, and seconds.
Preferred
- Prior forklift experience or certification.
- Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering prints.
- Familiarity with precision measurement tools and testing equipment.
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS).
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in a fast‑paced climate-controlled warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and operate tools or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Communicate clearly in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch as required by tasks.
- Distinguish between colors and various shades.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
