About the Company

Our client builds next-generation identity, entity resolution and risk intelligence platforms used by banks, governments and regulated organisations. Their software processes millions of records through distributed, event-driven pipelines, combining graph intelligence, large-scale data processing and modern cloud architecture to help regulated businesses understand exactly who they are dealing with. They are a small, high-trust engineering team working on genuinely complex technical problems in a space where quality and correctness are not optional.

The Role

This is not a traditional QA role. You will join a small engineering team as the person responsible for defining and owning the overall quality strategy across multiple products and services. The platform processes high volumes of data through asynchronous, distributed pipelines where failures are subtle rather than obvious… and catching them before they reach a customer requires real engineering thinking, not just test scripts. You will build the automation infrastructure, shape the testing culture and work shoulder-to-shoulder with developers throughout the delivery lifecycle. If you are the kind of engineer who takes as much pride in the testing systems as in the software being tested, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities

– Own and evolve the end-to-end testing strategy across multiple products and distributed services

– Build and maintain a comprehensive Playwright-based test suite covering critical user journeys and regression scenarios

– Champion contract testing (Pact or equivalent) across APIs, microservices and event-driven components

– Design realistic integration test environments using Docker, LocalStack, seeded MongoDB datasets and mocked third-party services

– Test complex asynchronous workflows including batch processing, retries, dead-letter queues, idempotency and long-running screening operations

– Ensure CI pipelines are fast, reliable and trusted so automated testing is a genuine safety net for every merge

– Design reusable test data, fixtures and automation frameworks that improve developer productivity across the team

– Collaborate with engineers to improve unit, integration and end-to-end coverage throughout the development lifecycle

– Drive continuous quality improvements, eliminating flaky tests and increasing confidence in every deployment

– Perform exploratory and manual testing where automation alone is not sufficient, particularly for new features and release candidates

What You'll Need

Essential

– 4+ years of experience in test automation, QA engineering or SDET roles

– Strong software engineering skills in TypeScript or JavaScript

– Deep hands-on experience with Playwright (or Cypress, with a willingness to move to Playwright)

– Experience testing modern React applications and REST APIs

– Experience testing distributed or event-driven systems, including asynchronous workflows

– Experience designing integration testing strategies across multiple services

– Experience introducing or building contract testing using Pact or similar

– Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions

– Excellent communication skills and a genuinely collaborative approach to quality

Nice to have

– MongoDB experience for test data seeding and verification

– Experience with Vitest, Jest or React Testing Library

– Background in compliance, KYC/AML, fintech or other regulated industries

Why Apply?

– £70,000 – £90,000 salary (full-time) or equivalent day rate (contract)

– Fully remote, UK-based

– Full-time or contract engagement considered

– High autonomy and ownership… you will set the quality direction, not just execute someone else's

– Small, high-trust engineering team with minimal bureaucracy and genuine influence over how things are built

– Work on technically complex, meaningful problems in the identity and risk intelligence space

– Opportunity to shape quality culture from the ground up at a well-funded regtech business
