Department Information

The Navigating Intergroup Contexts and Emotions (NICE) Lab (Principal Investigator (PI): Dr. Dorainne Green) and the interACT Lab (PI: Dr. Natasha Chaku) are recruiting a full-time joint Laboratory Manager within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University (IU) Bloomington.

Candidates interested in youth development, psychophysiology, (e.g., cortisol, sleep, puberty) and/or diversity, inequality, and intergroup relations are particularly encouraged to apply. Methodologies currently employed across both labs include self-reports, cognitive testing, behavioral tasks, biological sample collection, and daily diary or ecological momentary assessment (EMA).

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Assists both labs in their day-to-day activities, which primarily seek to understand the lived experiences of youth and young adults, especially as related to the social and developmental determinants of health and wellbeing.
Assists laboratory personnel including office staff, technologists, supervisors, and laboratory managers in completing testing.
Manages laboratory equipment and tools essential to the function of everyday activities in the lab.
Initiates, monitors, completes, and reports routine to moderately complex research studies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

General Responsibilities

Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies.
Organizes and implements data review and analysis.
Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories.
Conducts data quality assurance practices.
Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.
Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory.
Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor’s degree in science or health-related discipline

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

1 year of laboratory experience

Proficient written and verbal communication skills

Proficient in research design (e.g. IRB submissions, complex survey design)
Proficient in statistical programs (e.g. SOSS, R, Stata)
Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

This position is grant-funded and will be supported for the duration of the grant’s life cycle or until the allocated funding has been fully expended.

The person in this position will gain substantial research experience (e.g., authorship on posters and manuscripts, conference travel) and mentorship across social and developmental research labs. Thus, this position would be ideal for individuals motivated to pursue graduate studies in Psychology.

$19.50 per hour
