JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician (QAT)

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Operations Manager – CA

Status: Non-Exempt

Date Issued: April 2025

Salary Range: $25.00 – $32.00
(Actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience)

SUMMARY:
Responsible for rental fleet maintenance, in-house repairs, equipment testing, and assisting the Production Department in project completion. The primary activities to be performed include but are not limited to the following: functional evaluation of water treatment equipment, repair/refurbishment of equipment and components within, digitally interfacing with equipment for troubleshooting, data gathering, record keeping, and rental customer support. The Quality Assurance Technician will utilize established protocols to maintain project budgets and deadlines. This is an on-site, full-time position at the San Luis Obispo location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform comprehensive audits of equipment functionality, with a specific focus on electrical systems and components, determining material needs and scope of work for refurbishment.
Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, using electrical schematics, diagnostic tools, and testing equipment to determine appropriate corrective actions and ensure safe reliable operation.
Perform all necessary electrical and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance measures to return equipment to optimum operational condition, in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Support rental customers by delivering remote technical assistance, including operator training and troubleshooting guidance.
Establish and maintain a respectful working relationship with clients, establishing yourself as a knowledgeable and reliable resource.
Accurately maintain detailed fleet service records, documenting all service activities and testing data.
Perform in-house repairs, coordinating with equipment vendors and manufacturers for technical support as needed.
Perform warranty claim evaluations on electrical and mechanical system components.
Prepare clear, detailed service reports, electrical inspection results, and warranty claim documentation for internal and external review.
Perform Quality Assurance testing of all new equipment built in the SLO facility.
Perform dielectric testing and other electrical system evaluations in accordance with procedural documentation, ensuring adherence to industry and safety standards.
Follow established testing procedures while actively identifying opportunities for protocol improvements to enhance accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
Safely operate equipment in accordance with all internal and external safety requirements.
Maintain detailed record keeping of all testing data.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Gain a detailed operational understanding of water systems to customer.
Actively participate in both administering and receiving technical training.
Maintain testing equipment, materials, and tools in good working order.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workspace.
Represent Newterra in a professional manner with colleagues and clients.
Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety to others in accordance with Newterra’s safety policies and procedures. This includes reporting all safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, near-misses, and incidents to their manager immediately.
Complete all responsibilities while ensuring adherence to Newterra’s Delegation of Authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma, technical trade certificate, electrician, millwright, or equivalent experience.
Basic understanding of PLC programming and HMI logic.
Water treatment process knowledge preferred. Newterra technologies include Ozone, Media Exchange, MBR, RO, UF, Chemical Dosing systems, Aeration, Deaeration, and more.
Experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment (piping, valves, pumps, etc.)
3-5 years’ experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Forklift experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Use of hands to control, handle and operate equipment. Accurate hand/eye coordination. Finger dexterity, as well as hand strength, with the ability to grasp, lift, push and pull. The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust controls of equipment to maneuver or position. Work involves stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, or sitting for long periods of time. Lifting objects up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment in the San Luis Obispo facility may include exposure to production and/or shipping & receiving activities, noise, machinery, hazardous materials, dirt, dust, debris, or fumes. Company safety standards must always be followed.Show more
